Emotional Load Influencing Your Dance
Dance is freedom, but only if you manage to break your own cage. 💃
Some of us want to be honest on stage, show the true feelings that we are going through in our lives, sort of open up our souls. ❤ ️ Others prefer to work with the imaginary characters, creating magical tales and worlds for the audience to enjoy.
🔮But the truth is that it’s always us on stage. It’s impossible to hide neither under the bring spot light, nor in the darker rehearsal room…⠀
Dance is the expression of your emotions through movements. And I’m talking not only about the meaning of the song, or which mood you are trying to create with your presentation. 👉With dance you have to face your deeper emotions, those that you’ve stored in your body for years.⠀
Any suppressed anger, any unhealed emotional trauma, any unresolved conflict, or constant guilt and anxiety… they all leave marks in our body: 💁♀️tensed shoulders, painful hip joints, tendency for frequent injuries. It shapes our muscles. 💁♀️Someone can’t get shimmies for a while, but maybe their arm work is fluid and mesmerizing. Another person may not experience any difficulties at all with shimmies, but their chest area is so tense that any movement there is simply impossible at first. ⠀
Every teacher will tell you that it’s a normal process, everyone is individual, and everyone will have their own learning curve. 👉With time and practice everything is possible to solve and master. But did you ever think why the same muscles but in different people react differently to the same movements? 🤔
Of course, there is an obvious biological factor about various body structures, but also, there is an additional layer of emotional baggage that we all carry with us… 🧳🧳🧳It’s all there, inside your body, and as a dancer you deal with it all the time, regardless if you realize it or not.
Your body never lies, neither does your dance.🤗😘❤️

I see it over and over again that dancers who barely had any experience want to crowd their improvisation with hundreds of movements that at the end of the day, don’t even fit the music.
