Improving My Own Dance Practice
I have been doing belly dancing for almost 20 years so far. I studied with teachers, but I also spent numerous hours of practicing on my own.
My training and lifestyle eventually led me to two things: countless online courses, and private classes with top teachers. Each class was usually eye-opening in terms of exercises to improve my dancing, but then it was a question of self-discipline to actually do them on a consistent basis in order to see results.
I must be honest: too often I failed on that… So often that at some point I just got tired to search that inner motivation every single day to do that huge list of exercises I knew I should be doing.
So I decided to solve this problem once and forever. I decided to come up with a regular routine on how to start my own training session, incorporating most of my desired exercises. And I video recorded it. Just for myself. That way I didn’t have to think over and over again: I simply followed a set routine, worked on my technique, and got into a groove for further training.
Of course, with time I got more ideas about exercises I wanna incorporate into that drill, so one video transformed into several ones. Later I thought about idea of sharing them with other dancers, and that was the beginning idea of the Iana Dance Club.
But the main point is that in order to achieve certain results in dance, you need to understand your struggles and weak points. Then you need to think about habit that could help your improve and reach desired results. And after you identify new habit you wanna develop, you should think about systems around your lifestyle that would make it easier to stick to a new habit.
